What to do
While debt collectors play an important role in the financial system, they are not your friends. Therefore, it is important to be aware of your rights.
Dispute Now
Are they are calling the wrong person or did you already pay off your debt. There could be a million valid reasons to dispute a debt. Don’t put off filing disputes starting at the actual company that is calling you.
Who Is Transworld Systems, Inc
Transworld Systems, Inc (TSI) was founded in 1962 and began as a credit reporting agency. In the 1980s, TSI began to focus on debt collection, and it quickly became one of the largest debt collection agencies in the United States.
TSI has a long history of complaints from consumers, alleging harassment and unfair collection practices. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that in 2016, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) sued TSI for violating consumer protection laws. The CFPB alleged that TSI was harassing consumers and using deceptive tactics to collect debts. A year later, TSI settled the lawsuit with the CFPB in 2017, agreeing to pay a $2.5 million fine and to change its collection practices.
Despite its history of complaints, TSI remains one of the largest debt collection agencies in the United States. The TSI’s website states that they are “committed to providing our clients with the highest quality debt collection services while adhering to the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct.”
What To Do If Contacted By Transworld Systems, Inc.
While debt collectors play an important role in the financial system, they are not your friends. Above all, debt collectors are not there to help you. Rather, the truth is that these collection agencies collect money for their clients, and do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Knowing your rights if very important. If you are contacted by a debt collector, you have the right to:
- Verify the debt: Debt collectors are required to provide you with certain information about the debt. This includes the original creditor, the amount of the debt, and the date it was due. If you are not sure if the debt is legitimate, you can ask the debt collector for proof of the debt.
- Dispute the debt: If you believe that the debt is not yours, or that you have already paid it, you can dispute it with the debt collector. You will need to provide documentation to support your claim.
- Make a payment arrangement: If you cannot afford to pay the debt in full, you can try to work out a payment arrangement with the debt collector. This may involve making smaller payments over a longer period of time.
- Be treated fairly: Debt collectors are prohibited from engaging in certain harassing or abusive practices, such as calling you at unreasonable hours, threatening you with violence or arrest, or lying to you about the debt.
- Remove Transworld from your credit report: If you believe that Transworld Systems has added the debt on your credit report by mistake, you can dispute it. Visit our credit report removal guide to remove Transworld System from your credit report.
Complaints can be filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
